B2B & SaaS Marketing
By the time a B2B buyer contacts you, they've usually done most of their evaluation without you. They've read comparisons, asked peers, and — increasingly — asked an AI assistant which vendors to consider. Your job isn't to persuade them at the end. It's to be present, and cited, during the part you don't see. We build content-led B2B programmes for Nashville companies, with AI search visibility treated as a first-class channel. Retainers typically $3,750 to $6,500 a month.
This is the vertical where AI search matters most and where almost nobody has started.
What makes B2B different from local service marketing?
Multiple people decide. A homeowner buys a roof alone. A B2B purchase involves a committee, and content that speaks to only one member stalls at the next one.
| Who | What they're actually asking | What they need from you |
|---|---|---|
| The user | Will this make my job easier? | Product detail, workflow, a demo |
| The manager | Will this work for my team, and can we roll it out? | Implementation timeline, onboarding, support |
| Finance | What's the real cost and what's the return? | Pricing, ROI framing, contract terms |
| IT / security | Will this create a problem for me? | Integrations, data handling, security documentation |
| The champion | How do I sell this internally? | A one-pager they can forward without editing |
That last row is the one most B2B content misses. Your champion is presenting your product to people you'll never meet, and if you haven't given them something forwardable, they'll build it themselves — badly.
The cycle runs months to quarters. Which means a campaign judged at 30 days will look like a failure regardless of whether it's working.
Attribution genuinely breaks. Eight to twenty touchpoints across search, content, email, peer conversation and events. Last-click reporting will tell you a confident story that is wrong, and budget moved on that basis goes to the wrong place.
Volume is small and value is large. You may need twelve customers a year. That changes everything about what "good" looks like — a hundred leads a month is meaningless if none are the right accounts.
Why does AI search matter more here than anywhere else?
Because B2B buyers were already research-first, and they've adopted AI assistants faster than consumers.
"What are the best [category] tools for a mid-sized manufacturer" is a query that used to produce a comparison article and now increasingly produces a shortlist. Being on that shortlist is the modern equivalent of being in the analyst report — and the mechanics of getting there are known: original data, named authors, answer-first structure, comparison content, and third-party mentions.
Roughly 85% of AI brand mentions come from third-party pages rather than your own site, which means the off-site work — being cited, reviewed, listed and quoted — carries more weight than anything you publish yourself. Most B2B companies are doing none of it.
That's the opportunity. See AI SEO for how the programme works and how it's measured.
Which channels work for B2B?
| Channel | Priority | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Content marketing | Highest | The channel. Comparison content, buyer's guides, implementation detail |
| AI SEO | High, and early | Buyers ask assistants for vendor shortlists. Land-grab window is open now |
| Website SEO | High | Solution and use-case pages, plus the long research tail |
| Marketing strategy | High | Positioning and ICP definition. Getting this wrong makes every channel underperform |
| CRM & automation | Essential | Long cycles need nurture, lead scoring and multi-touch attribution |
| Microsoft Ads | Underrated | LinkedIn profile targeting layered onto search, and a desktop-at-work audience. Genuinely useful for B2B |
| Google Ads | Medium | Works on high-intent category and competitor terms; expensive for research queries |
| LinkedIn Ads | Medium | Precise targeting, highest CPCs of any channel. See the note below |
| YouTube | Low–medium | Product explainers and demos, mainly as retargeting |
What usually goes wrong
Measuring B2B on last-click attribution. It will credit whichever channel happened to be last and starve the ones doing the actual persuading.
Chasing lead volume. In a business needing twelve customers a year, a hundred unqualified MQLs a month is noise that occupies your sales time.
Content written for search engines rather than buying committees. Keyword-driven blog posts that no evaluator would forward to their CFO.
No comparison content. Buyers are comparing you whether you participate or not. A company that publishes honest comparisons — including where it isn't the right fit — controls how it's framed.
Ignoring third-party presence. Review platforms, directories, podcasts and analyst-style mentions drive most AI citations and a good deal of buyer confidence. Your own website can't do this job alone.
Judging campaigns at 30 days. The cycle is longer than the reporting period.
What we'd do in your first 90 days
- Define the ICP and positioning properly. Most B2B underperformance traces back to targeting too broadly.
- Fix attribution. Multi-touch, CRM-integrated. Without it every subsequent decision is guesswork.
- Baseline AI visibility. Run the category prompts. Find out whether you appear at all when a buyer asks for a shortlist.
- Build the comparison layer — versus competitors, versus alternatives, versus doing nothing.
- Publish the evaluation content buying committees actually need: pricing, implementation, integration, security.
- Start the third-party programme — review platforms, directories, podcasts, expert sourcing.
Frequently asked questions
How much does B2B marketing cost?
Retainers typically run $3,750 to $6,500 a month, because B2B needs content, SEO, AI search and automation running together rather than a single channel. Media spend varies widely by category. We take no percentage of ad spend.
How do you measure B2B marketing with a six-month sales cycle?
Multi-touch attribution through the CRM, pipeline influenced rather than leads generated, and cohort reporting by quarter. Last-click will actively mislead you. Expect two to three quarters before the picture is clear.
Why is AI search a priority for B2B?
Because buyers now ask assistants for vendor shortlists as a first step, and being cited in those answers is comparable to being in an analyst report. Most B2B companies haven't started, so the window is unusually open.
Should I run LinkedIn Ads?
It's the most precisely targeted B2B channel and the most expensive per click, so it needs a real budget floor to work. It's worth it for high-value, well-defined ICPs — see our LinkedIn Ads guide for the mechanics and costs.
Do you work with SaaS companies outside Nashville?
Yes. B2B and SaaS marketing is far less geographically dependent than local service work, so most of this transfers anywhere. Our local advantage is real but it applies mainly to local SEO.
What if my market is too small for content marketing?
Then content is more valuable, not less. In a narrow market you're writing for a few hundred qualified buyers, which means fewer pieces, aimed more precisely, and judged on who reads them rather than how many.
Should I publish comparison content against competitors?
Yes. Buyers are making those comparisons regardless — publishing your own means you frame it, and being honest about where you're not the right fit is what makes the rest credible.
How long before we see pipeline?
Paid channels produce enquiries within weeks. Content, SEO and AI visibility take two to three quarters to move pipeline meaningfully. Plan the budget for that timeline or don't start.
