AI Visibility Checker

When someone asks ChatGPT for the best plumber in Nashville, does your name come back? This tool runs a set of category prompts across several AI assistants and shows you whether you're mentioned, who is mentioned instead, and how often. Free, no email required to see the result.

Most businesses have never checked. About 16% track this at all, which is why the answer is usually "no" and why that's currently fixable.

One run per business per week is free and ungated. Running it again inside that window asks for an email — these queries cost us money to run, and that's the only reason.

What does the result mean?

Your score What it means
0% Invisible in AI search. Not unusual — most local businesses are, which is precisely why it's a window
1–25% You appear occasionally, usually on more specific prompts
26–50% Emerging presence. Already ahead of most competitors in your category
51%+ Strong. Worth protecting — citations decay without quarterly refreshes

The competitor list is often the more useful output. Seeing which three businesses come back consistently, when you don't, is a clearer picture of your position than any ranking report.

Why does this matter?

Because a growing share of research that used to start with a Google search now starts with a question to an assistant — and assistants return a shortlist, not ten links.

There's no page two. You're either in the answer or you aren't.

The mechanics of getting there are known and mostly on-page: answer-first content, question headings, a named author, original data, and a consistent business entity. What we cover in the AI search visibility guide, free.

What this tool doesn't do

Worth being clear about the limits.

  • It's a sample, not a measurement. Eight prompts on two models is a snapshot. Real tracking uses 25 prompts across five assistants, run weekly
  • Results vary run to run. These systems are non-deterministic. The same prompt can return different answers an hour apart, which is why a trend line matters more than a single score
  • It can't tell you why. A low score tells you there's a problem, not which of a dozen causes it is
  • It doesn't measure traffic. There's no analytics for AI search yet, and anyone claiming precise attribution is guessing

Treat it as a diagnostic that tells you whether to care, not as a dashboard.

What to do with a low score

In order:

  1. Build a named author page. Content with a named author and linked bio earns roughly 60% more AI citations than the same content anonymous
  2. Restructure your main pages — a direct 40–60 word answer up front, question-format headings, tables, an FAQ section
  3. Clean up your business entity. Name, address, phone and category identical everywhere. Ambiguity makes these systems hedge rather than recommend
  4. Get your third-party presence in order. Roughly 85% of AI brand mentions come from pages that aren't yours — directories, review platforms, press, podcasts
  5. Publish something only you can — your own cost data or market benchmarks

Steps 1 to 3 are free and take an afternoon. Step 4 is the slow part, and it's most of the outcome.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this?

It's a sample rather than a measurement. Eight prompts on two models gives you a directional answer — enough to know whether you have a problem. Proper tracking runs 25 prompts across five assistants weekly, over 4 to 6 weeks before the trend means anything.

Why do I get a different result when I ask ChatGPT myself?

Two reasons. These systems are non-deterministic, so answers vary between runs. And if you're logged in and have asked about your own business before, the model has context that flatters you. This tool runs fresh, unauthenticated sessions for that reason.

My competitor shows up and I don't. Why?

Usually third-party presence — they're mentioned in more places these systems draw from. Sometimes it's content structure. The AI search guide covers both.

Can I pay to appear in AI answers?

Not currently, in the way you pay for search ads. Which is exactly why the on-page and off-site work matters — it's the only lever available, and most competitors haven't pulled it.

Does schema markup fix this?

No. Google stated in May 2026 that structured data isn't required for AI Overviews or AI Mode, and a 2026 study found no measurable citation lift from JSON-LD. Implement it for classic SEO reasons, not this.

How long does it take to improve?

On-page changes can show up in AI answers within 4 to 8 weeks — faster than classic rankings, since there's no equivalent trust delay. Off-site work takes a quarter or more.
